Farthing Wood is a friendly day nursery situated in the centre of Skircoat Green, near to the Copley site Lloyd's Banking group and the general Hospital. The nursery is a family business owned by Claire Westwood and Emma Hand, whom are both qualified nursery practitioners with young families of their own. The setting is managed by Adele Carney whom is fully qualified and is currently undertaking a degree in Early Years.

Farthing Wood Nursery prides itself on the quality and consistency of care they provide. Each child in the setting will start a learning journey of their own with time with their key person will provide a safe, secure and supported environment to ensure each child benefits from their time at nursery.

We acknowledge that children's childhood experiences are crucial and assist them in their future transition through life and qualified staff are positive role models to ensure that each child reaches their full potential. We offer full and part-time places, also offering 2, 3 & 4 year old funding places. Our staff are friendly, enthusiastic, caring professional and are all trained in the Early Years Foundation stage framework.

As joint owner of Farthing Wood Nursery with Emma, I am a qualified early years practitioner with 20+ years experience and a mum of 2. I am also Nursery chef and try hard to incorporate various dietry requirements whilst embracing healthy eating. I also work with the children each day enjoying activities enabling me to provide a holistic feel to nursery life. Providing an exceptional care, fun, educational and safe environment is central to our vision for the Nursery, which we have had from day one.

We pride ourselves being a close family run nursery where children, staff and parents are always made to feel welcome and part of life at Farthing Wood.

My sister Claire and I have been proprietors of Farthing Wood Nursery for over 10 years and previously gaining 8 years experience working as an early years practitioner in various settings. I take on many roles within the Nursery spending most of my time working with the children and supporting their social, emotional and developmental needs in order to give them the best start possible.

I am a mother myself of 2 boys, both of which benefited from the experience of an enhanced caring environment with a real 'home from home' feel in their formative years, which we feel strongly should be provided to all of our families and children alike.

I am the Manager here at Farthing Wood, and have been since 2012. I have been an employee of Farthing Wood since 2007.
I have a passion for caring for children and helping them to reach their full potential, whilst having fun. I gain complete satisfaction from seeing them grow from babies / small children to 'big boys & girls'. I am extremely proud to know I have played a role in their early years development. During my time here I have gained qualifications 2 & 3 in Childcare and recently gained level 4 status. I have attended numerous other courses to further my knowledge. I continually aim to improve and strive for the best in both myself and the team which I lead.

I have been at Farthing Wood since March 2014 where I work in the Pre-School area.
I have worked with children since leaving school and have my Early Years Education Level 2 qualification and am currently studying for my level 3. Additionally, I am qualified in Paediatric First Aid, Down's Syndrome awareness and have a basic knowledge of BSL (British Sign Language). While working here at Farthing Wood, I will be attending a number of other courses relevant to my work and am looking forward to applying what I learn. My passion for working with children has been apparent to myself and others from a very early age and I spent some time as a volunteer at St. Pauls Brownies from 14-16 years old, after attending there myself for a number of years.
